Community spirit shines as church volunteers serve up holiday cheer and connection

St. Coletta’s of Illinois adult participants recently came together to celebrate the season of gratitude at a Thanksgiving feast lovingly prepared and served by members of All Saints Lutheran Church in Orland Park.

About 70 participants and chaperones enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal, complete with turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and all the trimmings. The church volunteers worked tirelessly to create a warm and festive atmosphere, reflecting their mission of community service and compassion.

“We are honored to have you here,” Pastor Don Borling told everyone as they prepared to eat. “You are family to us, and we want to thank you for sharing this moment with us.”

The event was marked by laughter, gratitude, and a sense of togetherness, embodying the spirit of Thanksgiving. St. Coletta’s adult participants expressed heartfelt appreciation for the delicious meal and the kindness of the church volunteers.

“The generosity of All Saints Lutheran Church is truly inspiring,” said Heather Benedick, CEO of St. Coletta’s of Illinois. “Their unwavering support enhances the lives of the individuals we serve and reminds us of the importance of community partnerships.”

The Thanksgiving feast is just one of the many ways All Saints Lutheran Church has supported St. Coletta’s of Illinois. The church also hosts summer picnics and provides ongoing spiritual and social engagement for the organization’s participants.

More than two dozen congregation members contributed to this year’s Thanksgiving feast on Nov. 20, preparing the turkeys and ham, crafting an array of side dishes and desserts, and serving every morsel with care.

“We just can’t help ourselves,” said Maddie Duerr, one of the volunteers. “They’re so special, so caring. Honestly, we get more out of this than they do."
